Our Story
Some Things Begin Before You Give Them a Name
Roots began with four people, from different places and different walks of life, brought together by a shared sense that something important had become easy to lose sight of.
Not something new that needed to be discovered.
Something old that needed to be remembered.
In different ways, each of us had experienced what can happen when life becomes a little quieter — when there is time to be in nature, to sit with others, to listen, to learn, and to reconnect with ways of living that ask less of us and somehow give more.
Over time, a simple question began to take shape:
What if we created a place for that?
Not a place to escape life.
A place to return to it differently.
What We Recognised
As we talked, we kept returning to the same observation.
So much of modern life asks us to keep moving. To improve, achieve, accumulate and become.
Even rest can become something to accomplish.
We wondered what might happen if, for a little while, those demands were allowed to fall away.
If there was nothing to prove.
Nothing to perform.
And no particular version of yourself you needed to become.
Perhaps some of what we spend our lives searching for isn’t somewhere ahead of us.
Perhaps it has been there all along.
What We Wanted to Create
We didn’t begin with a programme.
We began with the conditions.
Time. Nature. Good food. Meaningful conversation. Living traditions. Simple practices. And people willing to share what they know.
Enough structure to hold the experience, without asking you to carry it.
Some moments would be shared. Others would be yours alone.
There would be space for laughter as much as reflection, for curiosity as much as stillness, and for whatever the week might bring.
Roots grew from there.
Not as a prescription for how to live.
But as a place where, for a little while, there might be enough space to remember.
A Place That Was Already Alive
Roots could not have been created anywhere and simply brought to Colombia.
The places, people and traditions we encountered there became part of its story.
Relationships grew slowly. Conversations became friendships. Through them, we came to know landscapes, traditions and ways of gathering that had existed long before Roots had a name.
That mattered to us.
Everything here already belonged.
The land. The traditions. The knowledge carried through generations.
We are guests here too.
We didn’t want to take what was already here and turn it into something of our own.
We wanted to listen first. To work alongside people whose relationship with the land and its traditions is lived rather than borrowed.
Roots has grown through those relationships.
And it continues to grow through them.
The Story Continues
Roots is still becoming.
It will change with the people who gather there, the relationships that deepen, the seasons, and everything we continue to learn.
We hope it always does.
Because Roots was never intended to become a fixed formula.
It is something living — held with care, shaped by place, and made a little different by everyone who becomes part of it.
Including, perhaps, you.
Roots unfolds across two very different landscapes, each with something of its own to offer.
Remember · Respect · Return.
